Driver instructor training

Part one

Theory 100 multiple choice questions. There are four bands you must achieve 85% overall and at least 20 out of 25 in each band. To succeed this part books and materials are provided.

Hazard perception
14 different video clips which you have to identify the hazard. Each clip consists of 1 hazard and 1 clip will consist of 2. The sooner you spot the hazard you can be awarded points, 5 points going down to 0. A score of 57 has to be achieved out of a possible 75. Both parts have to be pasted at the same time.

Part two

Advanced driving
You will have to read a number plate at the required distance and answer some safety questions. It will also consist of a one hour drive (approximately). You must drive in a competent and professional way and commit no more than 6 minor faults. Any more, or one serious or one dangerous will result in a fail. You have only three attempts.

Part three

Instructor ability test
This test is approximately one hour and is split into two phases.

Phase one (30 minutes). There are ten pre-set tests. The examiner will give you a word picture and you will use your skills on these phases to “teach a new or partly trained pupil”. You will re-cap, set the objective, give a brief and then direct instruction. You must spot faults when they arise and analyse, giving correct remedied action. At the end you will give a quick brief summery.

Phase two. The examiner will give another word picture of a more experienced driver. You will again re-cap, set the objective and get your pupil on the move. You must then identify faults correctly, analyse and give the correct instruction ( guide and prompt) to remove any weak points. You must then give a summery at the end of the lesson.

After completing the part two successfully you could possibly go on a trainee (pink) licence with a local school to gain valuable experience for your part three. I can arrange for you to do this. All instructor training is on a one – on – one basis.
